Why the Federal goverment is against Arizona state law- opinion from former owner of staffing agency

May 7, 2010 by

I have heard so much talk about Arizona and being with a legal, educated Mexican man certainly gives me some perspective on this subject but my real perspective comes from years of owning a staffing agency. So much to say about this subject that I am going to give some important points before I give my bottom line — why the Federal Government has not and will not end the illegal immigrants issue.

–And for the record — My DH is for Arizona. He believes illegals make his race look bad. His mother came over here legally a good 40 years ago – got her papers and took English lessons. Met his Dad as the instructor too:) Very romantic. But he says if his mother can do it legally so can the others. Amen to that BUT…….there are reasons that just won’t happen even though our government could make it happen. How? Make all employers key in social security numbers when they hire people. 9 out of 10 non-English speakers would be sent packing. No job. No money. No use for the US. Bush tried to do this. It got stalled and put aside.WHY?????

Also let me say I staffed everything from CEO’s to labor staff. And when unemployment was low, there wasn’t a kitchen or warehouse in states like Texas and Tennessee where I had offices that would have had employees without illegals. I cut out an article where the newspaper reported an official off the record telling a reporter they were told not to raid because they’d shut down half the companies in the state! But that isn’t now norm is it my point. My point REGARDLESS OF A GOOD UNEMPLOYMENT RATE OR A BAD ONE is this — here is why the Fed government does not want to stop this issue and its not about keeping staff in place.

Here’s why:

–Our country is in a financial mess. We have bankrupted social security and pretty much everything else.

– Most people thing of illegal workers as getting paid under the table and NOT paying taxes. That is WRONG. SO WRONG. Mexicans go (and I mean huge huge numbers of Mexicans)go to work for companies directly or through an staffing agency and they present ID and sign up to have taxes taken out of their checks. They DO have taxes taken out of their checks and they don’t file tax returns because their social is illegal and they will get caught. So they PAY in lots of money collectively and NEVER get a refund. See where this is going? Illegal criminals cost the states big money for prisons and crime, but the Federal government is benefiting so they are not supporting a law to fix this.

On a side note — let me just say that Mexican workers WILL do jobs white people and black people won’t. Sorry. They just won’t. A white person and a black person or even a legal Mexican is not going to work in a Texas plant with no air conditioning, which let me tell you is HELL on earth. They will get food stamps and help. This is a fact. I saw it over and over. I can guarantee you that regardless of the unemployment there are lots of jobs only getting done by this type of labor. AND they are paying in taxes they are not collecting.

Also – small and medium biz generate a huge part of our economic prosperity as a country yet big companies slam them with such low rates offered to clients for service and products that many of these companies won’t be in business without cheap labor in bad conditions like no air conditioning. So they use Spanish labor. I did a once a month check on all my labor. I would have a staff member call in all social to the social security office. 9 out of 10 non-English speakers were fired because they came back invalid. They’d show up at the same job site with another agency in a day with a new name and new id!

And you know what is scary about NOT addressing this. I had several suspects from 911 apply at my Dallas office. They never worked because they came back illegal. They did such a bad job on their paperwork my manager called in their ID’s. After 911 my manager called me. We had to call the FBI and they came to meet with me because several looked frightening like pictures posted on line. Dallas was a target that day. I was in the air while those 911 planes were headed to Dallas. I try not to think about that. But the bottom line — it would be much harder for terrorist to be here if we did a social security work check that was mandatory or you are fined big bucks as an employer. But we as a country, in my humble but educated opinion, need the income the illegals generate in taxes.

So this isn’t a simple issue. Screaming to have everyone deported could bankrupt us to the Greece state. How do we fix this? I just don’t know. The problem is too big.

Rambling complete.

Hope its legible. I didn’t proof. I should be writing about romance and happiness right now:)

I couldn’t have said it better! What you posted was well thought out and concise. I’m torn about the issue because like you said, if others can come in here legally, so can they. The other reason why I’m torn is because I know they pay taxes and never get a refund. I know of a few illegal immigrants that while you don’t speak about it, you know they are and they’re good people. I just don’t agree with how they are here.

Everyone’s screaming that what Arizona is doing is racial profiling, but you know what? NEWSFLASH! We’re all profiled in one way or another. They ought to stop kidding themselves! It happens! I’m Puerto Rican and I can’t tell you how many times because of my last name someone stops and says “Oh, but you don’t h ave an accent!” They say this with utter surprise, which I find insulting. Why would all people who speak Spanish as well have an accent? Am I supposed to sound like, I don’t know, Rosie Perez? (No offense to Rosie.)

The other thing that I find irritating is that HELLO! PEOPLE! Why do you assume all the illegal immigrants are Mexican? Like you pointed out, you had those creepy people come through your office and were they Mexican? No! They’re from all over the world. I just think that as collective we need to be responsible for this country and be involved to come up with a solution. People don’t realize that they let the situation get as bad as it has by not getting involved in the workings of the country. Just a thought. My rambling’s done now too. lol

Glad to see someone else that talks about this hot button issue. Oh and I’m sorry you had that experience on 9/11.

I don’t know what blacks you know but not all of us I have worked for years in warehouses with no AC and would do it again but the jobs are taking not all but a hell of a lot of them. When you have a system set where it do not hire blacks because they have the scam of tax evasion by these companies and their state regulators on money and kick backs ,this also involves banks like in Hobbs Bonded Fiber TX and Chase bank yes I wrote it and know it come find me. They have made the better mouse trap so to say now this is what Uncle Sam and the puppets made and this didn’t happen when Obama got in office. They let companies get away with false unemployment claims and as work conditions go maybe little cash under the table for OSHA as well. But they turn us away at the door because they know they have to only do the dance of letting them work for I think it’s two years and they lay them off then re-hirer them and they blacks don’t want to work to justify why they don’t have any there working when I have work right next to them for years only thing they want you to act illegal to that is if the treat you like shit you gotta take it to but when you stand up they put into there buddy list from job to unemployment to lean on your character for standing for myself and even if they where illegal stood for what was right.
