07 is my personal computer hell and yes more random rambling

Sony - I bought Sony because its supposed to be high quality. So DH has his 6 months and the processor is out. Mine has been one repair nightmare and its now looking as if they have to replace it completely - thank goodness for warranties - they no longer make it so they won’t repair it. This model lasted them all of about 15 months. Apparently, lots of people had repair issues.

So yesterday Diego wants to get me out of the house to work because he thinks my deadline is making me insane - or maybe he said making HIM insane. This was a continuation of the weekend where he took me out to write and it worked. So we thought you know, maybe it would work again. WRONG.

Either way, our new Borders is our destination and we did not know trouble would follow. Gorgeous store, great coffee shop , Alluring Tales on the front display shelf. All is well. No.Their internet is down. So we go to starbucks. My internet won’t seem to connect there. I had RT group ads I had to get in so the internet was critical. My day slips away. I am freaking out. Diego is sorry he took me out in public. He buys me chocolate and leaves for two hours. I make page count. I eat more chocolate. Then the trouble begins again.

So on to my computer hell. We get home that night and our modem has died! yes died. ATT tells us that our warranty is out by 7 days and it will take them 10 days to charge us and get us a new one….My stress level went to my neck - Diego even gets stressed and he never gets stressed. They transferred him to this SOS dept who told him the same thing. Your warranty is out and we won’t honor it. He asked them if the SOS department was an extra department just to ensure the customer go the ‘you are screwed’ message lol! Takes a lot for his sharp tongue to flare but when it does - ouch!

Today I stayed at home and made page count lol! No way was I leaving this house. We got a modem. We left ATT….no sos required.

On another note, I went to see see two movies this weekend. Again, Diego trying to get me moticated. Friday I went to Barnes and Noble and wrote all day. Good page count. Then we went and saw Ghostrider. I liked it. Not overwhelmed but I liked it. I liked Nicolas Cage and it sparked some writing ideas that worked well with some things I had going on because ultimately its and angels and demons story like the one I am wriitng. So good choice.

Saturday- another day at the bookstore
300. I think I am the only one who hated it. I liked the King. He took a story with no real character and gave at least himself, character. The rest was a slow moving plot that we all knew well and knew there would be no suprises. It was war and war and blood. It did not motivate my brain nor did it stimulate my writing juices as hoped.

Anyone see these movies and what did you think?

Reviews and other ramblings

First Waving hi to everyone! Rita! Love the fun stuff you send me! I need to post it here! Once I get past this deadline I will NOT be as tight every again lol! Learned my lesson. I now know about the process from start to finish enough to prepare!

Anyway — Today I became aware that there are some blogs that blast books in a rather hurtful way. I never knew this. I guess I figured it could happen but I’ve read good and bad reviews and prof. sites handle them in an expected way. As authors we expect good and bad reviews, and people who love us and people who prefer other authors. Reviews usually are handled in a way (at review sites) that authors accept that and are fine with it.

So someone mentioned today that several blogs really attack some of the authors. One site had something posted someone sent me to read. This poor authors was smashed and it was her first NYC book that some well thought of editor obviosly loved enough to buy — and that says a lot. Now this was not just a bad review. This was intense, entertainment purposes, dig in and grind.

I hear all kinds of opinoins about taking bad reviews on the chin and, hey, I agree! But when the person takes it to a different level and for entertainment purposes smashes the author, I hate to see that. Some say — its the price you pay to write. I don’t think so. I think in life we all have the choice of thinking about how we address things and how it might make someone else feel. There is a fine line between honesty and brutallity.

Now, that said, I’m curious about what other people think. I feel for this author. Maybe as an author I’m not being objective about this kind of thing? What do other people think?

Writing

I am making really good progress on Beast of Desire. it’s due the end of the month so I have to stay focused but I am in a zone now. I really am liking the characters and so its not feeling hard to do…thank goodness! I had a short disconnect and I don’t know why.

An author friend sent me these today and I opened them after I finished my page count. I was tired and they made me laugh. It was perfect timing. Hope they make you smile too!

Oh- I have like FOUR prizes/winners I owe stuff too! names will be in the newsletter in about week so I didn’t forget! Promise…

Paddy was driving down the street in a sweat because he had an important meeting and couldn’t find a parking place. Looking up to heaven he said, “Lord take pity on me. If you find me a parking place I will go to Mass every Sunday for the rest of me life and give up me Irish Whiskey!”

Miraculously, a parking place appeared.

Paddy looked up again and said, “Never mind, I found one.”

***************

Father Murphy walks into a pub in Donegal, and says to the first man he meets, “Do you want to go to heaven?”

The man said, “I do, Father.”

The priest said, “Then stand over there against the wall.”

Then the priest asked the second man, “Do you want to go to heaven?”

“Certainly, Father,” was the man’s reply.

“Then stand over there against the wall,” said the priest.

Then Father Murphy walked up to O’Toole and said, “Do you want to go to heaven?”

O’Toole said, “No, I don’t Father.”

The priest said, “I don’t believe this. You mean to tell me that when you die you don’t want to go to heaven?”

O’Toole said, “Oh, when I die, yes. I thought you were getting a group together to go right now.”

Hello hello!

Oh my! I have had a crazy few weeks. Both mine and DH’s computers had major issues. We actually bought another computer because we have to ship both computers to sony. DH has had his six months and his procesor is overheating so badly even the keys get hot!

In between I had revisions, copy edits, you name it! I have a book due the end of this month and after that a proposal and then 4 months to write the next book. So its been crazy but after this month it will calm. I learned now that copy edits and things come at about 6 months before release so I know to work these things in my schedule.

The winners for the New Years contest will be in my newsletter that will go out soon! No I didn’t forget. Just was in h*ll for a tiny period. I think from December with the flu until now, its been almost like being back in my corporate job! Part of its is that I am also taking my son to football camps and college visits.

Alluring Tales is OUT!!

If you read it love to hear your thoughts!

Next month my Pocket anthology is out too! Then my Blaze in August…Oh and I got my EXCLUSIVE COVER!!
