A new week

I still have tons of goodies — if I don’t give them away this week they have to wait until I finish Beast of Darknes. So –I’ll pick winners Friday from all my blog posters this week.

Well- hoping for some book news this week. On pins and needles. It’s BEA week though- a big convention - so probably not:( But one can hope. I didn’t get near as much writing as I wanted to get done this weekend. I I did get an important chapter done that introduces the bad guys to the readers and also did some restructuring. I think it made the pacing, tension, and so, much better.

My oldest turns 23 this week! I turn 40 this year so the math will tell you I had him young. We have enjoyed a close relationship as he’s grown though and I think the age thing actually helps us. I think as parents we take what we have and use it to be the best we can be. What else can we do? I bought him a gift today. He’s harder to buy for now than before. They mature and so do their interests.

I picked up UNBOUND this weekend by Lori Devoti and started reading it and I am loving it. A nice change because lately I have gotten a few chapters into each book and lost interest. I hate when that happens. I had a spell there where I had so many great reads and then something happened. They ran dry. Lots of new books but I was struggling to find the good ones that held my interest.

What does everyone suggest after this one?

Good luck on the book news. Hope it is something good you want to hear. :)
Happy Birthday to your son. It sounds like this month was a busy one with your sons.
I hate when that also happens with books. You buy it because it sounds good and half way through your wondering if you should have bought the boring one.lol I’m reading Chosen Prey by Cheyenne McCray and so far it is good. Off to read.

Sounds like you and your son are both having Birthdays. You said you and your son are close right now, at what age does that occur? I have a 17 year old son and I am 52 so I had him late in life. We were close when he was young, but sense his teen age years things have change. I hope it gets better when he matures a little.

As far as getting bord with books I usully try to read them anyway, sometimes I get one I just can’t get into at all. My favorite read lately has been Lord Of The Nile by Constance O’Banyon, I just love her books.

I had the same thing at about the same age! I felt really lost too. We were so very close and then he pulled away. The past year we have gotten close again and its like the seperation was never there. He told me someone told him that the closer you are to a parent the harder you tend to pull away to find independance. I guess that makes sense but it was very hard. They come back and I think sons really need their mom’s.

My daughter is younger than your son she’s 14 and she has gone threw a spell where she isolates herself from us and pulled away from me for no apparent reason i stayed persistant trying to be involved with her because she shut herself out from friends at school also she’s coming around now and pertcipating more now but she exspressed to me how much she hated her school so i’m trying to help in that area too so at least she knows i care about her feelings. I guess just continuing to keep the door open speaks loud to a child instead of hollering because they don’t tell you what’s wrong maybe they don’t even know theirselves what wrong except they’re growing up.

If you pick up a book by any one of these authors you won’t be disappointed. Bertrice Small, Dorothy Garlock, Karen Marie Moning, Johanna Lindsey, or LaVyrle Spencer. I am never disapointed with any of these authors. LaVyrle Spencer isn’t writing anymore, I’ve read all her books, all are good.

I’m glad you are enjoying Unbound! Do you read urban fantasy? I’m reading Kelley Armstrong’s newest. I love everything she writes. I also bought some graphic novels this weekend that I’m eager to try.

No matter what stage they are going through one can only be there for them and as long as they know this it should be good.
Happy birthday to your son. Bring on the goodies.

Well, I can’t wait to get to License to Thrill by Lori Wilde, it was the one of hers that I never got, and she happened to be giving some away and I made it in there to get one. :) I loved the ones I read that came after that one. :)

Unbound is a really great story. Have you read Atlantis Rising by Alyssa Day or Jacob by Jacquelyn Frank? Two really great paranormals.

I am a little behind in reading my TBR stack, but have enjoyed Sherrilyn Kenyon, Charlaine Harris, Lara Adrian and Alyssa Day Recently.

Yes, Sherrilyn Kenyon and Charlaine Harris are my favorites too. It will be interesting to see how the Sookie Stackhouse series will be once HBO airs their version of it later this year.

I know on the HBO series! I can’t wait! That is going to be interesting to check out for sure. I love both these authors. I saw Kenyon has a new paranormal that is part of her cop series. I am excited to have a paranormal outside the hunters from her. I think it will be great!

    Happy Birthday to your son.
I have a 16 year old son and I’ll be 42 in June.
We were closer when he was younger, but lately you know it just isn’t cool to hang with Mom. We did go out a few weekends ago to see Spiderman 3 we had dinner and then the movie it was nice because we got to chat and catch up. My husband was away and so was my daughter so just him and I

I was talking to my 23 year old this week and he assured me that pulling away was part of growing up. He is proof they come back. We are super close now but went through the teen phaze of seperation that was soooo the pits!

Hey Lisa, holding thumbs for you on da book news!!!

Many happy returns for your son ;o) I think its so awesome that you and you son can spend such quality time due to the closeness of the age gap - My mom had me when she was nearing 40 and let me tell you that the big age gap does get in the way *lol* some of her thinking and ways tend to be old fashioned but I love her still!

Age does impact parenting but I think it makes us special and unique in our own ways…I know age changes our perspective on things and older can offer insight younger can’t.

mmmm what to read next suggestion? I would suggest Alexis Morgan Paladin’s series - I’ve read her and find her series totally cool.

At the moment I’m tossing a coin to make a decision in what order to start reading my books from RT *grin* they arrived over the weekend, but been a bit hectic at work so I’m looking forward to the weekend to do some reading - YAY! Any pointers would be welcome but I might give on alphabetically order with the titles *wink*

Happy birthday to your son! If you haven’t yet tried Kim Harrison, I would recommend her. She’s got a great series about a witch who lives with a vampire and a pixy. The latest in the series just came out in the last couple months. If I remember correctly, there are 5 in all so far and they just keep getting better & better.

Good luck with your book news, Lisa! Also, congrats on getting that crucial chapter finished :). My mom recently gave me a big box of old Harlequins (5-10 yrs. old). I am currently reading Shattered Vows by Jasmine Cresswell which is the 1st in the Weddings by DeWilde series. My daughter came home yesterday with 2 new reads for me: Cold As Ice by Anne Stuart and Bogeyman by Gayle Wilson. Guess I’ll dive into those next. Dorothy Garlock is one of my absolute favorite authors, I love anything written by her.

I have read some of Anne Stuart’s historical romances and I love them. This will be the 1st of her suspense novels that I have read. I will let you know how it is, although I’m sure it’s gonna be great too. I love all authors, I can’t think of any that I have read that I can say I don’t like! Maybe because I’m just a voracious reader….I read anything and love it!!

When do you turn 40 Lisa? I turn 40 in October so I was wondering when it was going to happen to you too.I am opposite on the kids though. My oldest is going to be 4 in June and I have a 7 month old baby girl. I did not get married and start having kids until I was in my early 30’s. I am an old mommy. No more kiddies for me though. I do not want to be having kids in my 40’s. I have my boy and my girl and I am happy.

Unbound is on my TBB list. I though it sounded so good. Glad to here you are enjoying it since that gives me a positive opinion about it.

    Happy Birhday to your son!

Right now I am reading some manga. I am reading Kamikaze Kaitou Jeanne which is a series of 7 manga which has a paranormal bent. The heroine is a high school girl who battles demons. It is good. My sister lent it to me and I am enjoying it. She also lent me Jacob by JacQuelyn Frank and raves about how good it is so maybe I will start that next.

Maybe mine wore me out early so I am tired now but I can’t imagine chasing them around now! I tihnk that is it. I already did diapers and early mornings so I am just wore out ! Unbound is worth the time for sure. Enjoyed it! I’ve been hearing about Manga… I might have to try them out.

My children are 5 and 7 years old. I dread the teenage years, because I remember myself as a teen. I guess I was not too horrible, but definitely sneaky.

I read Broken by Megan Hart and it was exceptional. It is dark at times though, so don’t read it when you are in the mood for sweet and fluffy. :)

Happy Belated BD to your son. I never had kids of my own but have watched the trials and successes of our friends and their kids and am glad to hear you and your son are close. As for a suggested read, I just finished Nora Roberts’ Circle Trilogy. It was excellent! I also like the Crimson City series by Liz Maverick and friends. I just bought the Blood Ties series of books but haven’t started them yet. Should be interesting to see if the TV show followed the books in content. Hope you get all that writing done for Beast of Darkness (can’t wait for it to be done!)

Happy belated birthday to your son. My oldest daughter turned 5 on the 20th and my youngest turned 3 on the 26th.
My youngest was able to start Taekwondo this past week. uring her first class, she hugged a girl that was in line in front of her and later, she kissed a boy! Oh yeah, I think I’ll have my hands full with her!
I’m currently reading an arc for Simon Says by Lori Foster and really enjoying it. I just finished Naughty Housewives by Elizabeth Scott. Very hot read!
