Category Romance

This week I was reading through the comments from a post over at Dearauthor.com (Great blog if you haven’t found them yet!) about reading category romance — the question among several being about reading them or not… It was a great post. Sometimes category romances have bold titles and covers. I wonder if this makes you nervous about going to the register to checkout? Do you buy them online for that reason ? Do you buy them? What line do you love?

I have a box of older Presents Desires and Temptations that are near impossible to giveaway.. I’ll pick three winners, 3 books a piece! Since I didn’t draw last weeks winner, I am doing 3! I will count last weeks posts in this drawing!

So post and let me know your thoughts. Also, check out the contest here:

    Hi Lisa,

I really enjoy category romances. Unfortunately I discovered the Temptation series shortly before it ended, but I read Blaze, Nocturne, Suspense, American regularly.

I love reading all catagories of romance. I don’t have a problem going to the checkout with any of the books in any of the catagories, I’ve never had a problem or a bad comment from any of the sales clerks. My favorite…….just as long as it is romance.

LOL — I USED to be nervous about letting anyone know what I was buying to the point I wouldn’t buy them if I saw anyone I knew. Gradually this changed but I had not realized to what degree until the other day I was shopping with my three boys. We were standing in the checkout line with everyone and their grandma having nothing else to do BUT listen to each other’s conversations when my boys picked up my about to be purchases and asked away — do you think you’ll like it? Will it have a happy ending? Does this one have mystery? And on went the list. They weren’t embarrassed in the least and I suddenly felt very proud. AND thankful. I mean we are talking blatant romance covered books here and they were treating them with respect. :-) It was really cool.

As for a favorite line category line… I fell in love with the Presents line first years ago. I’ve broadened my range quite a bit since then and love most of the lines — mostly it just depends on the story. :-) Presents though is usually still my first draw. I think mostly because it was a first love. :-)

I love category romances and will buy them wherever I can…in stores and online. I don’t have a problem buying them in stores…doesn’t matter to me about the covers.

I started out reading Harlequin’s historical line and now love the Blazes, Desires, Temptations (although I discovered them too late and miss them), SuperRomances, Intrigues, and the Medical Romances (which I have to buy online). I have probably tried (or have in the TBR Mountain) a book from every category line…LOL. You should see the Harlequin/Silhouette sections of my TBR Mountain Range

I love category romance. My favorites are the Nocturne, Luna, Romance, Presents, and Desires. I buy books in the other lines as well but the above mentioned are my favorites. I don’t think the covers are all that bad. If a cover is so embarassing for me to buy in public then I would just buy it online.

My favorites are Blaze, Presents, Medical and Desire. I would buy the book no matter the cover and if someone was around I didn’t want to see me doing this I’d walk around the store until I found an empty checkout.

It doesn’t bother me to buy any type of book in a store. If I want to read a book I will buy it. I don’t care whats on the cover. My mother in law has picked up a few books in my house and frowned, but what to heck its me thats reading the books not her. She will just have to get over it.

I definitely read category romance. In Finnish, English, Swedish and German. Hey, keeping up your language skills is much more fun that way! My favorites are Desire, Nocturne and Intrigue/Suspence.

I read the Temptation line for a long time and was so sad when it ended, but, thankfully, I was also reading Blaze, which I totally enjoy plus also love the Nocturne category of stories. I just purchased The Beast Within and Saving Destiny and looking forward to reading both real soon. I have no problem purchasing books of any category no matter the title or cover; I have never had anyone say something nasty or off color when I check out, if anything they comment on having read the book themselves and enjoying it. I figure as long as I am spending my hard earned money I will choose any books I want and no one better say anything about my choices if they want to keep my money coming into their store…I would definitely go to another bookstore where my business is appreciated…but this has never been a problem no matter what state or city I have been in so far.

I used to be a little embarrassed about reading category romances, but when I met my husband four years ago, I was struck by how he so unapologetically loved Star Wars and GI Joe action figures. I started to realize that being happy is a lot more important than what people think. And dag nabbit, category romance novels make me happy! LOL My favorite is the recently launched Nocturne, but I seem to spread my money around all the different lines, it’s more about the blurb.
